The Case

Jorge Torres died after being zipped inside a suitcase at the Winter Park, Florida, home he shared with Sarah Boone in February 2020. Boone initially told detectives they had been playing hide-and-seek and that she fell asleep. Videos from her phone recorded Torres asking for help from inside the suitcase.

The defense argued that Boone acted in self-defense after a history of domestic violence. Prosecutors said she left Torres trapped to punish him. The jury found her guilty of second-degree murder on October 25, 2024. Judge Michael Kraynick sentenced her to life in prison on December 2.
