About

Junella Uadan authenticated evidence extracted from Sarah Boone's phone for both the prosecution and defense. On Day 6, the digital forensics examiner explained an on-scene user-data extraction and a later full-file-system extraction. The court admitted the phone as State's 16 and an extraction excerpt as State's 17 without objection. Uadan read selected outgoing messages and confirmed that two videos were captured at 11:12:45 p.m. and 11:23:03 p.m. on February 23, 2020. The State played both videos.

Her testimony distinguished what the extraction recorded from what it could establish about a person's actions. Uadan said deleted-data recovery was not guaranteed, and her observations about camera activity were limited to the displayed excerpts. On cross-examination, Tony Henderson questioned account information listing Brian Boone. Uadan explained that names and originating numbers did not establish who physically typed a message. She also acknowledged uncertainty about who supplied or reconfirmed the passcode. On redirect, she said sound and visuals could help identify a phone user, without identifying a particular user in that exchange.

On Day 8, Uadan returned for the defense and identified two videos as files extracted from Boone's phone. She confirmed that the video marked AA fairly and accurately depicted an extracted video. Without State objection, the court admitted AA as Defendant's 17 and Z as Defendant's 18, and the defense played both. The reporter expressly warned that Exhibit 17's audio transcription was not verbatim because of recording and speaker-identification difficulties. The State declined cross-examination, and Uadan was excused.
